Welcome to the Time Travelling Volunteers' Page

For IMPORTANT INFORMATION about CRB and Vetting and Barring please click here

Time Travelling owes its success to the wonderful 300 strong team of volunteers, who travel from the furthest reaches of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham and from as far afield as Manchester.  The commitment of the team is astonishing, and between them they host and lead activities for 8000 primary school children every year.

People join our team for many reasons and with many skills, but all have a love for children and a vision to see them enjoying the stunning Minster and learning about the Christian faith.

Roles for volunteers include acting as Pilgrim Guides, leading activities (drama, craft, communion, baptism, prayer and storytelling to name but a few), or providing practical help with fetching, carrying, shopping and resource preparation.

All team members are CRB checked and give a reference from their church leaders.  Training opportunities and social events are offered during the year and volunteers are kept up to date by receiving our newsletters three times a year.

News:

Date for your Diary
We are arranging a conference for you again this autumn, on 9th October 9.30 - 1pm.  We will be hearing about child protection, what school have to cover according to the new RE syllabus, and we hope to hear from a Special needs teacher about working with special children.  There'll also be time for feedback and discussion.  Please let Sue know if you're coming.

Special Birthdays
Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with Diana and Emma in the Bishop's garden on 20th July.  We felt very special, and it was lovely to see the wonderful team of volunteers sitting around in the sunshine sipping drinks and in such a stunnning setting.  We are so grateful for your very generous gift of money to us both, and we'll let you know what we decide to spend it on.

Sponsored Bike Ride

To mark his 70th birthday, Roger Dobson, local Town Councillor and Chairman of Southwell Heritage Trust, is cycling the historic ‘Pilgrim route’ from the French border to Santiago de Compostela.  The pilgrimage is an epic 842 kilometres (personal target 500kms) and will take place between September 14 – 26th 2010.

He has kindly offered to donate all sponsorship money to Time Travelling, due to the pilgrimage connection.  If you would like to sponsor him, click the link below to his "just giving" page, which enables you to give online with a credit card, or phone/email Sue at the office for a sponsor form for your church, or to sponsor him yourself.

Bishop Paul
We are delighted that Bishop Paul came to join us on 3 days at Time Travelling to welcome the children, showing them his cope, mitre and crozier. The highlight was watching him running up and down the aisle between the amazed children and adults, trying to use his cope to get off the ground and fly!.

We have to raise £20,000 per year to ensure Time Travelling continues.  If you or your church would like to make a donation, or you have a fund raising idea, please let us know.
